Edit the settings of a course

  • Updated

The main author and co-authors of the course, the editors and admins from the course’s owner group, and platform administrators can edit courses, even after they have been shared or added to a path.

To edit the cover picture, title, presentation type, skills, or tags, see Edit the overview of a course. To add, edit, or delete activities, see Edit the contents of a course.

Editing the same course in multiple browsers or tabs can lead to lost changes.

See Edit the main author or co-author of a course.

Edit the owner group of a course

The main author of the course, and the editors and admins of its current owner group, can change the owner group. They can select any group in which they have the admin, editor, or contributor role.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Courses.
  2. On the right of the course row, click pen.svg Edit.
  3. In the top right, click settings.svg Course Settings.
  4. Click the current Owner group.
  5. Select the new Owner group.
  6. Click Confirm.

By default, the owner group of a course is the group of the user who initially created the course. If the user belonged to several groups, the owner group is (by order of priority) the private group closest to the platform group, with the most users.

The owner group is used:

  • To decide who can edit the course. Editors and admins of the owner group can edit, duplicate, archive, and delete it.
  • To decide who can read and post internal comments. Editors and admins of the owner group are treated as course contributors.
  • To give access to course statistics. Editors and analysts of the owner group can view them.
  • To show the course in search results for editors of the owner group.
  • To apply the settings of the owner group, such as its AI settings and its available LTI connectors.
  • In Data Connect.

Changing the owner group does not remove the course from catalogs, libraries, or paths. No notification is sent.

Edit the estimated duration of a course

The estimated duration indicates how long the course should take learners. The platform does not calculate it from the course content: authors set it manually.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Courses.
  2. On the right of the course row, click pen.svg Edit.
  3. In the top right, click settings.svg Course Settings.
  4. Turn on Estimated duration. The duration is set to 15 minutes by default.
  5. Enter the duration in minutes, as a whole number up to 100,000.

To remove the estimated duration, turn off Estimated duration.

The estimated duration appears:

  • On the course homepage.
  • On course thumbnails (for example, in catalogs and on the homepage).
  • In search results. The Duration search filter uses the estimated duration to sort courses into ranges. Courses without an estimated duration appear under Unknown.
  • In reports, as Expected duration in course statistics exports and Courses reports, and as Estimated training duration in OPCO logs reports.

Changing the estimated duration does not change the time spent recorded for learners, or the estimated duration of the paths that contain the course.

Edit the source language of a course

The source language is the language in which the course is written.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Courses.
  2. On the right of the course row, click pen.svg Edit.
  3. In the top right, click settings.svg Course Settings.
  4. In Source language, select a language.

You cannot select a language into which the course is already translated. To add or remove translations, see Translate a course.

The source language is used:

Enable or disable collaborative learning on a course

See Deactivate the forum and reactions.

Enable or disable question gating

When question gating is enabled, learners only see the activities up to the next question or poll they have not answered. The following activities, with their comments and reactions, appear once they submit an answer. Learners cannot open later activities from the table of contents either. When question gating is disabled, learners can play every activity in any order.

Question gating is always on in Slideshow courses, and the setting is greyed out. You can only turn it on or off in Single Page courses. Courses created from SCORM or other eLearning files have no question gating setting.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Courses.
  2. On the right of the course row, click pen.svg Edit.
  3. In the top right, click settings.svg Course Settings.
  4. Turn Question gating on or off.

Question gating does not change how progress is calculated. If you turn it on while learners are taking the course, learners who skipped a question return to it the next time they open the course.
