Mute automatic notifications for a path

Admins, editors, and contributors can mute the automatic notifications for a path. When muted, events on that path won’t trigger automatic notifications through email, in-app, Slack, Teams, or push notifications.

Use this when back-dating training that took place offline, moving a group of learners from one session to another, or handling communication for a path outside the platform.

Muting suppresses:

• Enrollment, session end, and last day of a session notifications.
• Path completion notifications, including certification.
• Inactivity reminders, step update notifications, and the notification sent when a path is unblocked.
• The initial assessment notification sent to a learner starting the first step of a path.
• The notifications sent to authors and instructors when they are added to a path or a session.
• Classroom notifications for classroom sessions inside the path: new slot available, slot updates, cancellations, registration changes, trainer changes, and attendance reminders.

Muting does not affect:

• Email steps in the path
• Manual reminders (sent manually by an admin or instructor).
• The newly assigned paths recap
• Content-generated notifications (triggered by content activity, such as forum posts and reactions)
• Notifications triggered by a learner’s own actions (confirmations for enrollment or unenrollment requests, waitlist notices, and assessment grading or retry notifications)
• Certification expiry reminders
• Classroom waitlist notifications (joining or leaving a waitlist, and being notified that a seat became available)
• Subpath notifications. The mute applies only to the path where it is set. Each subpath has its own notification settings and is not affected by the parent path’s mute.

Mute automatic notifications for a path

The mute only applies to events that happen after you turn it on. If an event already triggered its email before you muted the path, that email is still delivered.

1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
2. On the right side of the path row, click  Edit.
3. In the Build your training section, click Configure settings.
4. Under Notifications management, on the right of Mute notifications for this path, click  Mute notifications.

A mute indicator appears on the path list, path session list, and classrooms list.

Muting overrides the Reminders for inactive learners and Notify learners when new content is added settings and greys them out.

Unmute notifications for a path

Unmuting never resends the notifications that were suppressed while the path was muted.

1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
2. On the right side of the path row, click  Edit.
3. In the Build your training section, click Configure settings.
4. Under Notifications management, on the right of Mute notifications for this path, click  Unmute notifications.

New events trigger notifications again immediately. Unmuting restores notifications to the state they were in before muting: it does not turn on notifications that users or admins had already turned off independently.
