Manage the notifications you receive from your platform

  • Updated

Each user can choose whether to receive a given optional notification by email, Slack, or Microsoft Teams (if active on your platform). Changes to your notification settings may take a few hours to apply.

Mandatory notifications ↗ (for example, account creation or password change emails) are always sent, regardless of your settings.

This article covers the notification settings you can manage yourself as an individual user. For how platform admins configure and lock notification settings at the platform level, see Set default notification settings for all users.

Enable or disable a specific notification in your personal settings

Use your personal settings to turn a specific notification on or off, for each channel it supports.

  1. At the top right, click your user icon.
  2. Select Personal settings.
  3. At the top right, click the Notifications tab.
  4. Click a section title to expand it, and expand any grouped row to see its individual triggers.
  5. Select or clear the checkbox for the notification, in the Email, Slack, or Teams column. If a notification is grayed out, hover over the checkbox to see why:
    • "Your admin set this notification as active": A platform admin has locked it on. You can't turn it off in your personal settings.
    • "Your admin disabled this notification": A platform admin has locked it off. You can't turn it on in your personal settings.
    • "Unmute notifications to adjust this setting": You clicked Unsubscribe from all in an email footer. Use Unmute all email notifications to change it again.

Unsubscribe from notifications by email

To use this method, you need to have received at least one email notification from the platform.

In an email notification, you can click one of two footer links:

  • Unsubscribe from similar emails. Clicking this link means you will no longer receive emails of this type.
    • This unchecks the corresponding email's checkbox in your personal settings. You can recheck the checkbox there at any time to receive similar emails again.
    • This link only appears for optional emails a platform admin hasn't locked as active.
  • Unsubscribe from all. Clicking this link unsubscribes you from all optional emails, including any a platform admin has locked as active.
    • This grays out all notification settings in your personal settings.
    • The checkboxes retain their previous state (checked or unchecked), but you will not receive any of these optional emails while unsubscribed. To change your notification settings again, use Unmute all email notifications.

Marking an email as spam has the same effect as clicking Unsubscribe from all.

Unmute all email notifications

If you clicked Unsubscribe from all in an email footer or marked an email as spam, all your notifications are muted and their checkboxes are grayed out in your personal settings. You cannot edit them.

Unmute all notifications restores the notification states from before you unsubscribed from all:

  • Notifications that were enabled then are sent again.
  • Notifications that were disabled then stay disabled.

To unmute all email notifications:

  1. At the top right, click your user icon.
  2. Select Personal settings.
  3. On the top right, click the Notifications tab.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Unmute all notifications.

You can now edit your personal notification settings, except for notifications locked by a platform admin.
