Add a video to a course

  • Updated

Upload a video from your computer

You can upload videos up to 6GB in size. If the video size exceeds 400 MB, we suggest splitting it into several parts, or upload it to an external platform (YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo, etc.).

Accepted formats: .wmv, .vob, .mts, .mpg, .mpeg, .mkv, .m2ts, .flv, .3gp, .mp4, .webm, .mov, .m4v, .3gpp, .m2t, .avi.

If your video is in another format, compress it as a .zip file before uploading. Learners cannot play it directly, but they can download it.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Courses.
  2. On the right of a course, click pen.svg Edit.
  3. In the left sidebar, below the list of activities, click + Add activity → Add a document.
  4. Click OR SELECT A FILE.
  5. Choose a file from your computer.

By default, the title of the activity matches the filename. Click on it to rename it.

Select an excerpt of a video

You can set a start time and end time so learners begin at a specific point in the video. This is available for uploaded videos and videos added via a web link (such as public YouTube or Vimeo videos). It is not available for videos added via an embed code (such as private YouTube or Vimeo videos, or Google Drive videos).

Selecting an excerpt is not a hard crop. Learners can still navigate to earlier or later parts of the video using the timeline.

  1. Open the edition screen of a video activity.
  2. At the top right of the video, click settings.svg Settings.
  3. Check the option Select an excerpt of this video.
  4. Enter the start time and end time of the video.
  5. At the bottom right, click Save.

To check how the video appears to learners, click Preview at the top right of the activity.

Add a 360° video

You can add a 360° video the same way as any other video. Follow the steps in Upload a video from your computer above.

Allow learners to download a video

When uploading a video from your computer, the upload popup includes a Make this video downloadable checkbox. When checked, learners who have access to at least one course using that video can download it from their profile page, under the Documents tab.

Note that there is no download button inside the course itself. Regardless of this setting, learners cannot download a video directly while playing it in a coruse. Downloads are only available from the learner's Documents tab on their profile page.

If the option is not checked:

  • The video is still fully playable in the course.
  • Learners cannot download it from their Documents tab.
  • Platform administrators can always download uploaded videos, regardless of this setting.

This behavior applies only to videos uploaded directly to the platform. It does not apply to videos added via a web link or embed code (YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, etc.), as those are hosted externally.
