Send email notifications only during business hours

  • Updated

Platform admins can limit email notifications to business hours: a set of working days and a daily time window that applies to all users of the platform. Slack, Microsoft Teams, and push notifications are sent as usual.

When business hours are on, each email is checked against the recipient's time zone when it's triggered:

  • Inside business hours: the email is sent as usual.
  • Outside business hours, or in their last 10 minutes: the email is held until the next window starts, then sent on its own, not grouped into a digest. Some emails are always sent immediately.

Held emails can't be canceled, and later changes to business hours, to the recipient's time zone, or to their notification settings don't affect them. When many emails are sent at once, some may arrive later than expected.

Time zones are detected automatically from each user's browser or mobile device, and users can check theirs in their personal settings. Emails to users without a time zone are sent immediately.

Set business hours

  1. In the left sidebar, hover over the platform group (the one with a golden crown), then click settings.svg Settings.
  2. In the left column, click ringBell.svg Notifications.
  3. Click the Only send during business hours section.
  4. Under Start time and End time, enter the hours and minutes of the business hours window.
  5. Under Working days, select at least one working day.
  6. Click Apply.

The window must be at least 4 hours long, between 00:00 and 23:59. Working days repeat every week, with no exception for public holidays or personal days off.

Turn business hours off or on
