Translate a path

  • Updated

This feature requires the Globalization solution. For more information, contact your Customer Success Partner (CSP).

Admins, editors, and contributors can make their paths available in other languages through the translation feature. The following elements of a path can be translated:

Before translating a path, ensure that the courses and the certificates in the path are also translated.

The full workflow for making a path available in a new language is:

  1. Declare a new language.
  2. Translate the path in the new language.
  3. Make the path available to learners in the new language.

You may optionally assign translators, who will be in charge of translating the contents (but cannot change the structure of the path or the original content).

Declare a new language

This allows you to translate your path without making it public.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. Find the path you would like to translate, then on the right side, click Edit pen.svg .
  3. At the top of the page, click Translate translation.svg.
  4. Click Add languages, then select the languages you'd like to add.
  5. Click Add language(s).

For the full list of supported languages, see Languages available for translation.

Assign a translator to a language

The translator cannot edit the original contents of the path (unless they are also the main author or a co-author of that path).

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. Find the path you would like to translate, then on the right side, click Edit pen.svg .
  3. At the top of the page, click Translate translation.svg .
  4. Under the Translators column, click plus.svg.
  5. Select the translators, then click off of the popup.

Translators then receive an email inviting them to translate the path, with a button to open the translation interface directly. You can also send reminder emails.

Translator access requires email notifications: This email is the only way for translators to access the path translation interface. Ensure that translators have their email notifications enabled. If their notifications are disabled, they will not receive the invitation email and will be unable to begin the translation.

To remove a translator from a language, follow the steps above and unselect the user on step 5.

Send a reminder email to the translators of a language

You can send a reminder to users who have a translator role on a language. This will instantly send the same email as the one that was sent when they were first added as translators.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. On the right of the name of the path, click Edit pen.svg .
  3. At the top of the page, click Translate translation.svg .
  4. Under the Actions column, click 3Dots.svg.
  5. Click Send notification email to translators.

Translate the contents

As the main author, co-author, or translator, you can also translate the contents of a path.

If you’ve been added as a translator, click the button TRANSLATE THIS PATH in the notification email you received to access the translation interface.

Admins, editors, and contributors can also access the translation interface by following these steps:

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. Next to the path you wish to translate, click Edit pen.svg .
  3. At the top of the page, click Translate translation.svg .

The translation screen for paths is split into two tabs: Manage and Translate (the Translate tab will not be visible until at least one language has been added).

Under the Manage tab, you can add languages and assign translators to the path.

  1. Click Add new, then select the languages you'd like to add.
  2. Click Add language(s).
  3. Assign the translators to the languages added.

Under the Translate tab, you can see the Reference content (which cannot be edited) on the left, and the Translated content (which can be edited) on the right.

From here, you can:

  1. Translate the title and description of the path.
  2. Translate the custom enrollment email.
  3. Translate the steps within the path.
  4. Translate the session titles.

All changes are saved when you click outside the text field.

If you want to make the language available to learners directly after translating the contents, toggle on the Available option.

Make a language available to learners

Once your path is translated, you can make that language available to learners.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. Find the path you would like to translate, then on the right side, click Edit pen.svg .
  3. At the top of the page, click Translate translation.svg.
  4. In the Manage tab, under the Available column, enable the languages.

When a path is available in multiple languages, learners can select a specific language in the top bar, from the path homepage, or when they are playing the path.

  • If a learner selected a specific language for a given path:
    • On the learner's homepage and the path player, the path is displayed in the selected language.
    • The next time the learner plays the path, it opens in the selected language (even if they access it from a page where the path appears in another language, or if they open it from the mobile app with a mobile device in another language).
    • On the navigation breadcrumb of the path player, the title is displayed in the learner's profile language, if available. Otherwise, it's displayed in the default language of the path.
  • If a learner hasn't selected any specific language for a given path:
    • The path is displayed in the learner's profile language, if available.
    • When the path is not available in the learner's profile language, it's displayed in the default language assigned to the path.

You can remove the language from the list of available languages by following the steps above, and unchecking the box at step 4.

Delete a translated language

This will also delete all the translation content for the associated path.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. On the right of the name of the path, click Edit pen.svg .
  3. At the top of the page, click Translate translation.svg .
  4. Next to the language you would like to delete, click 3Dots.svg under the Actions column.
  5. Click Delete.
  6. Click Confirm.
