View the skill gaps in jobs and careers

  • Updated

This feature requires the Skills solution. For more information, contact your Customer Success Partner (CSP).

Who can use this feature?

  • All users can view the difference between the current and expected levels of all skills related to their job.
  • Admins can also view the difference for all users in their group.
  • Managers can view the difference for all their managees.

Skill gaps help visualize the difference between the level expected for the job, and the most recent level assessed for the job.

If the job is associated with 2 or fewer skills in total, there is not enough data to display a skills gap chart for the job.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Skills.
    • Managers: click bar.svg General analytics in the left sidebar, then click the Team’s skills tab.
  2. In Role-based skill gap, click on the yellow section.

You can then click on a user to open their profile.

Computation of the skill-gap

The skill-gap is computed using this formula:

  • Skill gap = (expected level - current level) / expected level

If the same skill appears in more than one of the user’s current jobs with different expected levels, both expected levels are shown in the skill side panel. The aggregated view and spider chart use the maximum expected level across all jobs.

Example 1:

  • If my level is ⚫️⚫️⚫️⚪️, and expected level is ⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️, the skill gap is 25% ((4-3) / 4 = 1/4) .
  • On the spider chart, the “Expected level” line is the outer node of the graph (4/4), and the “current level” line is the node just below (3/4).

Example 2:

  • If my level is ⚫️⚪️⚪️⚪️ and my expected level is ⚫️⚫️⚪️⚪️, the skill gap calculated is 50% ((2-1) / 2 = 1/2).
  • On the spider chart, the “Expected line” is 50% of the node (2/4), and the “current level” is the node just below (1/4).
