Activate IP filtering on a path session
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right of a path, click
Edit.
- If there is more than one path session, select a session in the Sessions sidebar.
- Under Enroll learners, in the Settings section, click Configure settings.
- Enable IP address filtering.
- Click Add IP addresses.
- Enter one or more IP addresses, separated by either a space, comma, semicolon, or a new line.
- Click Confirm.
If the IP filter is activated and no IP addresses have been added, the session becomes inaccessible to all users. A banner will appear under the session settings to highlight this.

Behavior for learners
Once IP filtering is activated for a session, learners must be connected from an approved IP address to access the session. If their IP address is not on the allowlist, they will see a message explaining the restriction and all steps of the path session will appear visibly blocked.
Sessions within the same path can be a mix of IP-filtered and unfiltered. If the filter is turned off, the previously entered IP addresses are preserved and will automatically be restored if the filter is reactivated.
Activating the path session IP address filter will only affect path sessions, users will still have access to the rest of the platform. If you would like to limit all platform access through IP address filtering, click here →
How different step types are affected
- Course steps are blocked for learners accessing from IP addresses not on the allowlist. Learners won’t be able to open them from the path page, and a direct link to the course will lead to an error message. After closing the message, they’ll be redirected to their homepage.
- Subpath sessions are blocked from the path page. If learners try to access a subpath through another route (such as a direct link), the subpath will open, but its internal steps will be blocked, just like those in the parent session.
- Classroom steps appear visually disabled in the session. However, learners can still perform certain actions: they can mark attendance (for example, answer “Going?”), switch between available slots, and register for a slot directly from the path homepage or other areas of the platform. The links to classrooms remain accessible even when the IP filter is active.
- Certificates, assessments, and email steps are not impacted by the IP filter and remain fully accessible.
Limitations
This feature is only available for path sessions created using the audience builder. Sessions that were created before the audience builder was introduced, or via the legacy API (v1), do not support IP filtering. Additionally, sessions that were migrated from the now-deprecated “Programs” feature do not support this setting.
While IP filtering is supported on all 360Learning platforms, it is deactivated by default. Activating the filter does not retroactively apply it to all sessions. Each session must be configured individually. If a session is created in a path with audience builder and includes subpaths that do not support it, the filter will still apply in practice, but the setting will not be visible or editable on the subpath session.
On mobile, IP address filtering only applies to online access. Learners who have downloaded content for offline use will not be blocked.
