Add a course from an external content provider to a path

  • Updated

Who can use this feature?

  • This feature requires the Curated Programs solution and the integration with an external content provider on your platform. Contact your Customer Success Partner (CSP) for more information.
  • Coaches and group admins can add a course synchronized from external content providers to the library of their group.
  • Authors can add synchronized courses to their paths if the courses are available in their group's library.
  • Courses and paths are accessible on Mobile and Web Applications.
  • Statistics are accessible on the Web Application.

You can integrate external courses from the following content providers:

The workflow for adding a course from an external content provider to a path is the following:

  1. Add an external course to the library of a group.
  2. Add the external course to a path.
Courses from LinkedIn Learning and OpenSesame are managed differently on our platform compared to other external content providers.

Step 1: Add an external course to the library of a group

Coaches and group admins can add a course synchronized from an external content provider to the library of their group.

  1. In the left navigation panel, click on a group.
  2. At the top of the group page, click Courses.
  3. At the top right, click MORE ACTIONS → Add course(s) to this group.
  4. At the top right of the dialog box, click slider.svg Filter.
  5. Under Provider Source, select External courses only.
  6. At the bottom right, click APPLY.
  7. Under Library, select the courses you wish to add to the library of the group.
  8. Click SAVE.

The selected courses are added to the group library.

Authors can now add the external course to their paths.

Step 2: Add the external course to a path

Once a course is added to a group library, authors can include them in their paths.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. On the right side of the path row, click pen.svg Edit.
  3. In the section Build your training, on the right of Add a step, click Course.
  4. At the top right of the dialog box, click slider.svg Filter.
  5. Under Provider Source, select External courses only.
  6. Optional: Under External providers, select the external content provider.
  7. Click APPLY.
  8. Select one or more courses.
  9. Click CONFIRM.

The path will make the course available to enrolled learners when they reach the step (linear path) or at enrollment (non-linear path).

When a learner clicks START on the external course homepage in 360Learning:

  • They are redirected to the platform of the external content provider, where they can play the course if they have the required permissions. They must use the same email in both platforms.
  • The course is automatically marked as Completed in 360Learning, with a progress of 0%. This allows the learner to continue a path with a linear progression without waiting for the following statistics synchronization between the external content provider and 360Learning.
  • If the external course is the last step in a path with a linear progression, or if the learner has completed all the other steps in a path with a non-linear progression, the path is marked as Successful.

To make sure the path is not automatically marked as Successful as soon as the learner launches the course, you can add a step after the external course. For example, if you want to determine if a learner receives a certificate upon path completion, you can add the following steps after the external course:

  • A course step using the Knowledge Check template, that requires the learner to confirm they have completed the previous course.
  • An assessment step with the Examination (certificate required) setting enabled, that requires an assessor to check the learner's progress in the course statistics before granting a certificate.

When the learner plays the course on the external content provider platform:

  • The course remains marked as Completed in 360Learning.
  • The progress and other course statistics in 360Learning are updated with the data from the external content provider either in near real-time or with the connector's daily statistics synchronization, depending on the external content provider:

    External content provider Statistics synchronization
Coursera Once a day, starting at 9:00 AM Central European Time (UTC + 1)
Edflex Once a day, starting at 8:20 AM Central European Time (UTC + 1)
fitforbanking Once a day, starting at 7:15 AM Central European Time (UTC + 1)
Go1 3 times a day, starting at 8:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 8:00 PM Central European Time (UTC + 1)
OpenClassrooms Once a day, starting at 8:05 AM Central European Time (UTC + 1)
Pluralsight Once a day, starting at 8:30 AM Central European Time (UTC + 1)
Skillsoft Once a day, starting at 8:55 AM Central European Time (UTC + 1)
Udemy Once a day, starting at 7:45 AM Central European Time (UTC + 1)

If a learner starts a course externally (without attempting in 360Learning) and does not finish it before the next connector synchronization, then an "opened attempt" is created on 360learning. This attempt will be closed when the learner has finished the external course and the next connector synchronization has run.

Near real-time data synchronization involves a slight delay, typically in seconds or minutes, depending on network latency and processing constraints. Users may need to refresh the page after a few minutes to see the updated statistics.
