Who can use this feature?

A positioning quiz allows you to assess a learner’s knowledge at the start of a path and automatically skip (waive) certain steps based on their score. Based on the learner’s result, parts of the associated path can be marked as completed without requiring the learner to go through them.
Learners will always see the positioning quiz at the top of the path and they only have one attempt to play it.
Waived steps only apply to the path associated with the positioning quiz.
Add a positioning quiz
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right of a path, click Edit
.
- Near the bottom of the page, under Positioning Quiz, select the source for the quiz.
- Create a quiz: AI will generate a quiz (based on questions in the selected courses) to be used as the positioning quiz.
- Select a course: Select a pre-existing course (or create a brand new course) to be used as the positioning quiz.
- Select the positioning quiz and configure the Learner score thresholds.
- Click Save.
Note, when selecting the source for the quiz, you cannot select a course that is already used as a step in the same path.
Configure thresholds
Thresholds define which steps are waived based on the learner’s score. Thresholds are based on a minimum score (%), and learners who reach that score or higher will waive the associated steps.
Example:
- 50% → waive Step 1
- 75% → waive Step 1 + Step 2 + Step 3
Most step types can be waived, including: Courses, Subpaths, Classrooms, and Assessments.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right of a path, click Edit
.
- Under Positioning Quiz, select the positioning quiz.
- On the right side of the screen, under Learner score thresholds, click
Add threshold.
- Enter a percentage for the threshold.
- Drag the steps that will be waived upon reaching the score into the associated score threshold.
- Repeat steps 4-6 for each threshold you'd like to create.
- Click Save.
Authors can edit the thresholds of a positioning quiz at any time, even once learners complete a positioning quiz and have waived steps.
Any changes that are made to thresholds will apply to learners who already completed the positioning quiz. This means that a learner’s progress % and/or path status can change as you edit a positioning quizzes thresholds.
Configure other options for the positioning quiz
Mandatory Replay
You can optionally configure Mandatory Replay on a path with a positioning quiz
- When enabled, the learner must complete the positioning quiz in the context of the path
- When disabled, any score that the learner achieved on a different context is used for the positioning quiz
If the course that is used as a positioning quiz is used in many other contexts, or if you are using automatic re-enrollment in conjunction with a positioning quiz, we recommend enabling Mandatory Replay.
