Edit a skill

Platform admins can edit skills, and link them to a user, a course or a path.

This article covers how to edit skills from the Web interface. You can also import skills in bulk, or with the API.

Rename a skill

  1. At the top right, click grid.svg β†’ Skills.
  2. In the middle section, expand a skill library and click on a skill. You can also use the search bar at the top of the section.
  3. At the top of the main section, click on the skill name.
  4. Enter the new name.
  5. Hit the ↡ Enter key**.**

Edit the parents of a skill

Platform admins can change the parents of a skill. The parent of a skill can be a skill library, or another skill. A skill can have several parents.

Users cannot assess themselves on skills that have subskills. If you want users to assess themselves on a skill, do not add it as a parent to another skill.

Add a parent

  1. At the top right, click grid.svg β†’ Skills.
  2. In the middle section, expand a skill library and click on a skill. You can also use the search bar at the top of the section.
  3. In the main section, on the right of Parents, click on the current parents.
  4. In the dropdown, select the new parent and click ADD on the bottom right.
  5. Click outside the list.

Remove a parent

  1. At the top right, click grid.svg β†’ Skills.
  2. In the middle section, expand a skill library and click on a skill. You can also use the search bar at the top of the section.
  3. In the main section, on the right of Parents, click on the current parents.
  4. In the list of parents, on the right of the name of a parent, click X.
  5. Click outside the list.

A skill with 0 parent is not listed in the middle section, and can only be found through the search bar.

Edit the external ID of a skill

Platform admins can edit the external ID of a skill. The external ID is a unique identifier, used to identify a skill when using CSV imports, or API routes.

  1. At the top right, click grid.svg β†’ Skills.
  2. In the middle section, expand a skill library and click on a skill. You can also use the search bar at the top of the section.
  3. At the top of the main section, below Parents, click Show 4 additional fields.
  4. On the right of External identifier, click on the value.
  5. Enter the new value.
  6. Hit the ↡ Enter key**.**

Edit the synonyms of a skill

Platform admins can add synonyms (or aliases) to skills. This allows admins, editors, and contributors to find the correct skill even when using a different name, and avoid duplicates.

  1. At the top right, click grid.svg β†’ Skills.
  2. In the middle section, expand a skill library and click on a skill. You can also use the search bar at the top of the section.
  3. At the top of the main section, below Parents, click Show 4 additional fields.
  4. On the right of Synonyms, click on the list (or the empty field).
  5. Enter one synonym per line.
  6. On the bottom right of the field, click checkmark.svg Submit.

Edit the description of a skill

  1. At the top right, click grid.svg β†’ Skills.
  2. In the middle section, expand a skill library and click on a skill. You can also use the search bar at the top of the section.
  3. In the main section, above Qualifiers, click on Description of the skill (or click on the current description, if it exists).
  4. Enter the new description.
  5. On the bottom left of the field, click SAVE.
