Admins, editors, contributors, the path main author and co-authors can add a course to a path. You can add any course you can play yourself. Platform admins can add any course.
In a linear path, a course becomes available when the learner reaches its step. In a non-linear path, it is available at enrollment.
Add a course to a path
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
Edit.
- At the bottom of the Steps section, on the right of Add a step, click Course.
- Select one or more courses.
- At the bottom right, click Confirm.
You cannot add a course that is already a requirement or a positioning quiz of the path.
To add a course from a content provider, see Add a course from an external content provider to a path.
Courses already completed by learners
If a learner already completed the course elsewhere on the platform, the step is completed in the path, unless mandatory replay is enabled.
In a linear path, if the course is part of an equivalency pool, learners who completed an equivalent course have the step marked as Waived.
Make the course optional
Making the course optional allows learners to complete the path without completing it. This applies to all learners enrolled in the path. An optional course's progress isn't counted in the path's overall progress or result.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
Edit.
- In the Build your training section, under Steps, click on the course step.
- In the Options panel, turn on Optional content.
Set a relative due date for the course
A relative due date is a soft deadline for the course, calculated from the learner's enrollment date. Learners can still complete the course after the due date.
Relative due dates appear in the path statistics dashboard, on each step in the path page, and on the homepage if the path has been started. If the path has several steps with relative due dates, the homepage shows the furthest date.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
Edit.
- In the Build your training section, under Steps, click on the course step.
- In the Options panel, turn on Relative due date.
- Click the duration type dropdown menu.
- Select a duration type: Month(s), Week(s), or Day(s).
- Enter a number in the Relative due date field.
To remove a relative due date, turn off Relative due date in the Options panel.
Control when learners see correct answers
By default, learners see the correct answer after each individual question. You can change this to show correct answers only after the course is complete.
This option is not available for courses from an external content provider, or for courses created from SCORM or other eLearning files.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
Edit.
- In the Build your training section, under Steps, click on the course step.
- In the Options panel, turn on Correct Answer, then select one of the following options:
- After each question: Learners see the correct answers after they submit their answers.
- At the end of the course: Learners see the correct answers after they complete the course.
- At the end of the course, if successful: Learners see the correct answers only after they complete the course successfully.
Control when learners see forum and reactions
By default, learners see the forum and reactions after each activity. You can change this to show the forum and reactions only after learners complete all course questions.
This option is not available for courses from an external content provider, or for courses created from SCORM or other eLearning files.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
Edit.
- In the Build your training section, under Steps, click on the course step.
- In the Options panel, turn on Forum & reactions.
- Select one of the following options:
- After each activity: Learners see the forum and reactions after each activity.
- At the end of the course: Learners see the forum and reactions after they complete the course.
- At the end of the course, if successful: Learners see the forum and reactions only after they complete the course successfully.
Set a time limit for the course
You can set a minimum or maximum duration for the course. This option is not available for courses from an external content provider, or for courses created from SCORM or other eLearning files.
A maximum time limit locks the course at the end of the defined time and lets the learner proceed to the next step. Learners can see the names of remaining activities but cannot access them. The timer at the top of the course shows the remaining time.
A minimum time limit prevents learners from proceeding to the next step until the time is up, even if they finish the course early.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
Edit.
- In the Build your training section, under Steps, click on the course step.
- In the Options panel, turn on Time limit.
- Select Min or Max, then enter the number of hours and minutes.
To remove the time limit, turn off Time limit in the Options panel.
Set a minimum score for the course
This option is not available for courses from an external content provider.
See Set a minimum score for a course in a path →
Limit the number of attempts for the course
This option is not available for courses from an external content provider.
When a learner reaches the maximum number of attempts, they cannot retry the course and can only close it.
- In a linear path, the learner's progress is blocked. They must be unenrolled (by themselves if they self-enrolled, or by a user who can manage the session) and re-enrolled in another session.
- In a non-linear path, the learner can continue the other steps in the path.
The number of remaining attempts appears on the path homepage and the course homepage.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
Edit.
- In the Build your training section, under Steps, click on the course step.
- In the Options panel, scroll down to Attempts and turn it on.
- Enter the maximum number of attempts, then click outside the field.
To remove the limit, turn off Attempts in the Options panel.
Set when the course becomes available
You can set an availability date for the course if no learner has finished it yet. Learners who started the course before the availability date lose access to it immediately.
If the course is part of an equivalency pool, learners who completed an equivalent course are not restricted by the availability date.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
Edit.
- In the Build your training section, under Steps, click on the course step.
- In the Options panel, scroll down to Availability and turn it on.
- Enter the number of days, weeks, or months.
- Select whether the duration applies after the session's start date or after the learner's enrollment date.
Learners will be able to access the course step starting at 12:00 AM (in their local time) on the availability date.
To remove the availability date, turn off Availability in the Options panel.
