Import SCORM courses with the flat file SCORM import connector

  • Updated

This feature requires the flat file SCORM import connector, which is part of the Tech Services catalog and has separate pricing. Contact your Customer Success Partner (CSP) for more information.

The flat file SCORM import connector imports SCORM courses into 360Learning from a CSV file. Each row of the file describes a course, and the SCORM packages and cover pictures it references are uploaded to an SFTP server. Use it to keep a content provider's catalog up to date in 360Learning, or to migrate a large SCORM library at once.

When you create a course from an eLearning file, the platform reads only the name, description, and duration from the SCORM package. With this connector, the CSV file sets the metadata of each course instead.

Powered by Workato, a middleware orchestration system between your source and 360Learning, this connector is highly configurable and provides the following features:

  • File retrieval: The connector fetches the CSV file on a schedule, from an SFTP server or from an email attachment.
  • Course lifecycle: Each row creates, updates, or archives a course in 360Learning.
  • Course metadata: Define which columns of the CSV file populate the title, description, language, authors, group, duration, and cover picture of each course.
  • Package updates: When a row references a new version of a SCORM package, the connector replaces the package in the existing course.
  • Tag rules: Define rules to automatically add tags to courses based on the values in the file.
  • External IDs: Store one or more external IDs on each course to match it with your source.
  • Change detection: The connector processes only new or changed courses. It can read a file that contains only the changes, compare each file with the previous one, or use a modification date column.
  • Notifications: You will be automatically notified if any issues or errors occur during the synchronization process. A weekly report is also sent to you by email.
  • File maintenance: After a file is processed, it is moved to an archive folder on the SFTP server.

The connector imports courses into a group, but it does not enroll learners in them.

Each CSV file can contain up to 10,000 courses and weigh up to 50 MB. Each course needs a unique external ID that never changes, since the connector uses it to find the course to update or archive.

SCORM packages must comply with SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 (2nd, 3rd, or 4th edition), AICC, or xAPI. To avoid upload errors, use only letters, numbers, and underscores in the names of the .zip files.
