Admins, editors, contributors, the path main author and co-authors can add a path to another path. The added path is called a subpath or child path.
Learners enrolled in the parent path are automatically enrolled in the subpaths.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
 Edit.
- At the bottom of the Steps section, on the right of Add a step, click Path.
- Select the paths.
- On the bottom right, click Confirm.
The subpath step reflects the learner's latest session of the subpath.
Visible subpaths
You can see and select any path that you can edit. In particular:
- If you’re a platform admin, you can see and select all paths.
- If you’re an admin, coach or editor of a group, you can see and select all paths owned by your group, and all paths on which you have the main author or co-author role. Learn more on the owner group, main author and co-author of a path in our article Edit the settings of a path →
Enrolling rules
Each session of the parent path has a child session in the subpath, with the same name and start date. The child session is synchronized with its parent session, and you cannot edit or delete it from the subpath:
- Enrolling or unenrolling learners in the parent session enrolls or unenrolls them in the child session.
- Changing the start or end date of the parent session changes it in the child session.
- Deleting the parent session deletes the child session.
- Changes to the subpath's contents apply to the child session.
Child sessions and their classrooms are not added to the catalog with the parent session. Learners access them by registering to the parent session.
If a learner already completed the subpath:
- Their course completions and classroom attendance carry over to the new child session, unless the subpath has mandatory replay enabled. Assessment results never carry over.
- If everything carries over, the subpath step is completed. Otherwise, it shows To retake until the learner completes the child session.
Automatic subpath enrollment was added on March 27, 2024. For path sessions created before this date, enroll learners in a session of the subpath manually, or add the subpath to their catalog.
Edit a subpath
You can edit a subpath by clicking … → Edit at the top right of the subpath.
Then, edit the path just like any path.
Make the subpath optional
Making the subpath optional allows learners to complete the path without completing it. This applies to all learners enrolled in the path. An optional subpath's progress isn't counted in the path's overall progress or result.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
 Edit.
- In the Build your training section, under Steps, click on the subpath step.
- In the Options panel, turn on Optional content.
Set a relative due date for the subpath
A relative due date is a soft deadline for the subpath, calculated from the learner's enrollment date. Learners can still complete the subpath after the due date.
Relative due dates appear in the path statistics dashboard, on each step in the path page, and on the homepage if the path has been started. If the path has several steps with relative due dates, the homepage shows the furthest date.
- At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
- On the right side of the path row, click
 Edit.
- In the Build your training section, under Steps, click on the subpath step.
- In the Options panel, turn on Relative due date.
- Click the duration type dropdown menu.
- Select a duration type: Month(s), Week(s), or Day(s).
- Enter a number in the Relative due date field.
To remove a relative due date, turn off Relative due date in the Options panel.
Remove a subpath
Removing a subpath will remove the corresponding child sessions, and their associated data and statistics.
