Download courses and paths on the mobile app to play them offline

  • Updated

You can download courses or paths on the mobile app, to play them without internet connection.

The following elements cannot be played offline.

  • Cheat sheets or questions imported from another course
  • Links to external websites
  • Documents integrated in the course, but hosted on an external site (for instance, with an Iframe or an embed code)
  • Opinion questions
  • Sub-paths
  • Path steps other than courses

When you’re offline, and play a course that is part of a linear path, you will be redirected to the path homepage (where you will have to play courses in the predefined order).

Reactions and comments within a course are unavailable when playing a course offline.

Download a course on the mobile app

  1. From the mobile app, open a course.
  2. On the top right of the screen, tap Download download.svg.

When the course is downloaded, a green icon is displayed on the top right of the introduction screen.

If you see a green icon but haven’t manually downloaded the course, your device may have the shared mode activated.

Download a SCORM course on the mobile app

  1. From a computer, open the SCORM course in edition mode.
  2. On the top right, click Course Settings gear.svg.
  3. In the section Mobile sharing, enable Play offline.
  4. From the mobile app, open a course.
  5. On the top right of the screen, tap Download download.svg.

If the file takes more than 1 minute to download, we will display an error. If that’s the case, we suggest either using a smaller file, or connect to a network with a higher bandwidth.

You can download SCORM 1.2 and 2004 courses for offline use. Other course types (xAPI, cmi5, AICC) are not supported for offline use.

Download a path on the mobile app

The download button is always visible for non-linear paths. For linear paths, it is only visible if the path contains exactly one eLearning standard course and it is the first step of the path.

If a path contains mandatory eLearning courses, completing the path offline will not be enough to earn a certificate or a Completed status. The learner will need to go online to finish those steps.

To download a path:

  1. From the mobile app, open a path
  2. On the top right of the screen, tap Download download.svg.

About statistics synchronization for courses played offline

Stats of a course played offline are uploaded to the platform only if the learner has finished the course, and at the moment of opening the app. You may therefore have to close and reopen the app to force the synchronization of stats, when you are online again.

If a path contains mandatory eLearning courses, the learner must go online to complete those steps before the platform can compute the score and grant a Completed status or certificate. Completing the path entirely offline is only possible if all eLearning courses in the path are optional. Note that all SCORM and eLearning standard scores require a server connection. No scores are computed or saved locally on the device.

If a learner starts a course in offline mode, then starts it again from the web platform before the stats are synchronized, only the attempt made on the web platform is kept.

If you experience synchronization problems, try the following actions:

  • Deactivate, then reactivate mobile data (if applicable, also the Wi-Fi connection)
  • Close the mobile app, then open it again
  • Open the home screen of a path
  • Start a new course with the mobile data enabled
  • Finish a course

If your platform was recently migrated to the new player, progress made offline on eLearning courses before the migration will not sync. Learners must go online to ensure their progress is captured correctly by the new player.

Do not uninstall the mobile app. This would delete all stats that are stored locally.
