Both Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams integrations connect 360Learning with Microsoft tools, but they serve different purposes. Use this guide to decide which integration fits your workflow.
Quick decision guide
- Microsoft Outlook: Best if you want classroom events to appear in calendars and RSVP responses to sync automatically.
- Microsoft Teams: Best if you want to be able to generate Teams meetings directly from 360Learning and fetch attendance data from Teams in 360Learning with one click.
The two integrations provide even more functionality when paired together:
- Classroom slots are automatically scheduled as events in Outlook Calendar
- Any updates made to these events are updated in Outlook for learners
- Online Teams meetings can be generated in 360Learning while creating/editing a classroom slot
- Attendance can be fetched from MS Teams' APIs directly in 360Learning with one click
Key differences
| Microsoft Outlook | Microsoft Teams | |
| Event creation | Classroom slots create events in Outlook calendars of organizers and registered learners | Teams meetings are created online; learners receive an email invitation to add the event to their personal calendar |
| RSVP sync | RSVP responses from learners are synced automatically between 360Learning and Outlook | While learners can respond using buttons in the 360Learning email, the responses are recorded in 360Learning but do not appear in Teams or Outlook calendars, and updates to the slot are not reflected automatically |
| Automatic updates | Updates to classroom slots in 360Learning automatically update Outlook events | Updates to classroom slots do not update the original email invitation; learners would need a new email/ICS to see changes |
| Notifications | Notifications are limited to calendar updates | Learners receive chat messages in Teams for path session assignments, forum mentions, and group mentions |
| Accessibility | Requires cloud-hosted Outlook (not Microsoft Exchange) | Available to any user with Teams and 360Learning accounts using the same email |
Important notes
RSVP sync is only available with the Outlook integration.
Both integrations require users to have the same professional email in 360Learning and the respective Microsoft tool.
The integrations can complement each other: you can use Teams for notifications while using Outlook for calendar management.
