Calendar integration for subgroups

  • Updated

Who can use this feature?

  • Group admins can enable/disable this feature for their group.

We’ve added a new option to our Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar integrations: Enable integration for all subgroups. This option allows subgroups to automatically inherit the calendar integration from their parent group, making calendar management easier across multiple groups.

How it works

When Enable integration for all subgroups is turned on for a group, the calendar integration is inherited by all its subgroups—unless a group admin at any level disables it.

If integration credentials expire on a group (with inheritance on), all of the subgroups under that group also have their credentials expired. In the case where you have a group that is overriding the inheritance of its parent, and the credentials expire, we will override this by using the next parent group where inheritance is on.

Example

Let’s say the setting is enabled on your platform group, and your platform group contains three subgroups (Group A, Group B, Group C), the calendar integration will automatically apply to each of these subgroups.

  • If Group A has its own subgroups (e.g., Group A1 and Group A2), those subgroups will also inherit the calendar integration.
  • However, if a group admin for Group A2 disables the feature, the inheritance stops at that level, and Group A2 will not share the parent group’s calendar.

This allows group admins to control calendar inheritance at their respective levels while maintaining consistency across your organization.

Subgroup limits

To prevent performance issues, this option cannot be enabled for groups containing more than 1000 subgroups. If there are more than 1000 subgroups within a group, the option to enable the setting will be greyed out and you will not be able to enable the setting without making changes to your group hierarchy.

Activating the feature

To enable the integration for all subgroups:

  1. In the left sidebar of the homepage, click on a group.
  2. At the top right of the page, click settings.svg Settings.
  3. Go to the Integrations page.
  4. Click the integration for which you would like to enable group inheritance.
  5. Under Other parameters, toggle the setting: Enable integration for all subgroups.
    • Note: This setting is On by default for new integrations.

This will automatically apply the calendar integration from the parent group to all subgroups, simplifying your scheduling management.
