Add an assessment step to a path

  • Updated

Assessment steps are designed to evaluate a learner’s understanding of specific topics.

In a linear path, learners cannot resume the path until the assessment has been completed. After it has been completed, Learners can resume their path uninterrupted, regardless of the assessment results.

In a non-linear path, learners can play through the path in the order that they want. The assessment step will be reached once the step preceding it has been completed by the learner.

Add an assessment step

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. On the right of a path, click Edit pen.png.
  3. Below the list of steps, on the right of Add a step, click Assessment.
  4. In the Assessment sidebar, Enter the title of the assessment.
  5. (Optional) List any instructions for the learners in the Instructions for learners section.
  6. In the Assessed by dropdown, select who will complete the assessment:
    • Instructors
    • Managers
  7. (Optional) List any instructions for the assessor in the Instructions for assessor section.
  8. In the Validation section, select how the validation is determined:
    • Fail/Pass validation
    • Score to reach
  9. (Optional) Enable the Examination (certificate required) setting, if you would like your learners to be required to pass the validation to receive their certificate.
  10. At the bottom right, click SAVE.

Change the assessor for the assessment step

By default, assessments are done by session instructors. You can choose the learner’s managers instead.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. On the right of a path, click Edit pen.png.
  3. In the Build your training section, select the assessment step.
  4. In the Assessment sidebar, open the Assessed by dropdown.
  5. Select the new assessor (Instructors or Managers).
  6. At the bottom right, click SAVE.

Assessors receive a notification when a learner reaches the assessment step.

Use the assessment to determine if a learner receives a certificate

A typical use case of assessment steps is to determine if the learner receives a certificate. This will not prevent the learner from completing the path.

  1. At the top of the homepage, click Paths.
  2. On the right of a path, click Edit pen.png.
  3. In the Build your training section, select the assessment step.
  4. In the Assessment sidebar, enable the Examination (certificate required) setting.
    • You must have a certificate in the path, before you can enable this setting.
