In 2023, we will start migrating all programs to paths. This article covers what you can expect during the migration and other frequently asked questions.
Schedule & Process
You’ll have the option to choose the pace of the migration that works best for you.
- January 2023: Clients select a gradual migration (opt-in) or a one-off migration to paths (opt-out).
- March 2023: Gradual migration starts for all opt-in clients.
- Q3/Q4 2023: Currently, this is the timeframe we plan to complete the migration from programs to paths. This is when the one-off migration for all opted-out clients will take place and all programs will be deleted.
Questions
Q: What does gradual migration mean?
A: Essentially, we'll migrate programs to paths in batches based on shared characteristics:
- First, programs with only courses will be moved to paths.
- Next, programs with courses and certificates.
- Last, programs with courses, certificates, classrooms, and so on.
Q: Will the learners’ progress be kept when a program is transformed into a path?
A: Yes. If a learner completed a program session, the corresponding path will also be completed.
Q: If a learner is registered to a program session but hasn’t started it, will they be enrolled in the corresponding path?
A: Yes. All learners registered in a program session will be enrolled in the corresponding path session.
Q: Will the opt-in/out request be sent to Platform Admins or to the billing manager?
A: Your Customer Success Partner will reach out to you in Q1 to discuss the path migration. You can also contact your CSP directly.
Q: What happens if I'm not sure I want to opt in?
A: That's ok! All your programs will be migrated to paths in one batch at a later stage. Currently the final migration is planned to take place in Q3/Q4.
Q: Will the programs I’ve already created be transformed into a path?
A: Yes, all the programs will be transformed into paths.
Q: What will happen to the programs that are already created on the platform?
A: Once all of them have been migrated to paths, they will be deleted from the platform.
Q: Will the migration happen automatically or will I need to do anything?
A: The migration script will do the job of transforming programs into paths, so there will be no manual work for you and your team.
Q: Are the KB articles on programs and paths up to date with these new versions?
A: Yes! We update our program and path articles as new versions are released. Look forward to more article updates over the next few releases!
Q: Will paths have the same ID as the original program?
A: Yes, we will keep the same ID.

Questions
Q: When can I start using paths?
A: If you are creating a path with only courses, classrooms, assessments, and a certificate.
- For more details see this article on when to use Paths vs Programs.
Q: Can we add email steps to paths?
A: We currently have that planned for Q2.
Q: When will the waiting list be added to the paths?
A: We currently have that planned for Q2.
Q: Is it possible to reuse program certificates in paths?
A: It is not currently possible; however, because you can reuse certificates from one path on another path, it will be possible after the migration.
Q: Can we add validation steps, like in programs?
A: Yes, as of November 9th, you can add assessment steps to paths.
Q: Will OPCO attestations be maintained?
A: Yes, we have that planned for Q1.
Q: Is there no more image bank like for the paths?
A: Currently, there is a limited icon image bank available on paths. We plan to add the Unsplash free image bank that currently exists for programs to paths in Q2.
Q: Will it be possible to limit the time for quizzes?
A: Yes, you can already set a time limit through path step options.
General Info
Questions
Q: In a path, how do we add questions that do not generate a score?
A: Use opinion questions in the courses that are path steps.
Q: Can we play the path courses in a gamified mode as it was possible in programs?
A: Our gamification mode (challenge mode) is limited to the mobile app.
Q: Can we integrate SCORM files in a path?
A: Yes, SCORM files are integrated at the course level. The following options are available for SCORM files: Optional content, Relative due date, Minimum score, Attempts, Availability.
Q: If I change my path template, do the changes only apply to future sessions (like on a program) or also to current sessions?
A: Yes, the changes apply to all sessions in the path!
Q: If a course that is already part of a path is changed, are those edits visible to the learners?
A: If the learner has already launched the course from the path, they will see the version they launched before the edits. If they have started the path but have not launched the course yet, they will see the updated version of the course.
Q: If the same course exists in several paths, are the learner's results included so they don’t have to retake the same course several times?
A: Yes, this is one of the features that paths have that programs did not.
In Q1, we plan to release a path step option that requires learners to retake a course. When using this option, path results reports will only show results for the courses launched in this path session. They will not show a learner’s previous course result outside of this path.
Q: Are we able to make part of a path linear progression and another part non-linear?
A: You can’t do that using a single path, but you could accomplish that using three paths.
Here’s what that would look like:
- Path 1: Your “parent” path. Add “Path 2” and “Path 3” as path steps. Make this path linear.
- Path 2 & Path 3: Your “sub-paths”. Make one linear and the other non-linear. Be sure to either enroll your Path 1 learners in these path sessions or add them to their Catalogs.
Q: I noticed that when we add a path step to another path, the learner ends up with two paths on their home page: the path + the subpath. Is this going to be corrected?
A: To avoid paths doubling up on the homepage like that, add the “sub-path” to catalogs instead of sharing it via enrollment.
Q: How can I export path data?
A: There are some options on the path dashboard and the new export interface.
Q: What happens when the session deadline has passed? Do learners still have access to it?
A: No, learners won’t have access to path sessions after the end date.
- If you would like to give them access, you could enroll them in another path session.
- End dates are also optional on path sessions, so you don’t need to set one at all if you don’t want to.
Q: Is it possible to share the path in the catalog without creating a session?
A: No, that’s not possible. However, to simplify those cases where you only want to share via a catalog, when you save a new path the platform automatically creates a session.
